Our Mission: At storrsstories.com, the purpose is to provide UConn Men's Basketball fans a single source for interesting and peculiar information about every player to have suited up in the era beginning with coach Jim Calhoun to present day. This is labor of love, as, like thousands of others, the UConn Huskies Men's Basketball team has been our number one sports team, some since the tender age of eight, listening to George Ehrlich call games on WTIC 1080 via a Zenith transistor radio muffled under the pillow so our parents wouldn't hear it late at night. OK, not all of us are ancient and for those fans that have caught the national flag blue and white wave since prehistoric times, we love and appreciate your ardor and applause. We are all in this together, as one, a nation of hyper-fanatics cheering our young men to greatness we can share with our hearts, souls and lungs. It would be a daunting and frustrating task to expand this site to include pre-Jim Calhoun players. Though the seeds of success were sown by the coaches and players during our successful Yankee Conference days and early Big East struggles, the fans are the biggest building block. Jim Calhoun recognized this, calling UConn basketball a sleeping giant. He knew of The Horde, the dozens of big and small town newspapers that covered the Huskies regularly and that the state embraced the team in all 169 towns. While we might love to read a summary of some of our favorite players pre-Calhoun, that will have to wait for another day. No short shrift is intended for Wes Bialosuknia, Art Quimby, Toby Kimball, Bill Corley, Malan and Melen, Bob Staak, Bob Boyd, Phil Hoagland, Corny Thompson, Jim Abromaitis, Mike McKay, Chuck Aleksinas, Bruce Kuczenski, Al Weston, Jimmy Foster, Earl Kelley, John Thomas, Cal Chapman, Tony Hanson or Joey Whelton. Earlier players like Walt Dropo, Vin Yokabaskas, Burr Carlson, Worthy Patterson, Jim Ahearn and Jack Rose deserve recognition as well. You may see them pop up in some of our quizzes! While we do not currently produce podcast, video or interview content, this may occur at some point. The visuals are all sourced from internet sites. The Player summaries are comprised of published content from dozens of sources as well as our own original material. References are listed by source name at citations For now, storrsstories.com does not aim to profit from this site so you'll see no ads. Opinions will belong to the site unless otherwise cited, such as original media material. In the interest of consistency, the decision was made to list all players by the place of birth, not necessarily the place where they grew up or where they made their bones in high school. This is why you'll see, for instance, Ben Gordon listed in England, Ruslan Inyatkin in Ukraine and walk-on Ed Tonella in Mexico. As a proud UConn grad, one of the more delightful men's game sidelights as a student and to this day is to cheer for and with bench players - the walk-ons who work at least as hard as the rotation players and revel in their few moments in the sun. storrsstories.com gives them their due. Player summaries, while at times dependent on internet age sources, can give readers some insight into these players about whom little may ever have been written. If the site has missed any walk-ons or rotational players or if you have identified a player's social link, please Contact Us.
